New Method Painting

I have always had a frustration with my method/style of painting in that it takes so soooo long to do where 1 painting could take from 1 to 7 months, although the paintings look good (ref previous post) I don’t have enough patients to be working on several paintings at a time that won’t be done for months at a time.

I just so happened to have a bunch of ink in a range of colours laying around and also some small canvases so some trial and error commenced.

Initially I placed some tape over a section of the canvas to leave some white space for some further acrylic painting, but instead the ink seeped through the tape and left this cool pattern on the canvas.

I chose to paint some patterns in the white space left by the tape, along with a white line down the canvas for some contrast and it looked okay, but possibly would look better without the pattern work. I did some more experimentation, playing with different colour combinations.

7 Month Painting

Recently I have been doing a lot of painting, it’s become a bit of a stress release for me. The painting I have been doing involves meticulous work with small lines that all come together to build the final image, although this method is extremely slow it is just as rewarding when the I get to see the final that has come together over the course of several months. In the case of this painting it took 7 months of painting on and off, annoyingly I would sit and paint for 2-3 hours at a time and it looked like I had done nothing.

I was initially inspired by this picture from NASA of Jupiter and the continuous swirls of clouds/storm happening on the planet. Admittedly looking at the painting and at the inspiration they don’t look very similar.

I’ve always liked filming the process of painting, especially when so many hours of work gets put into a single painting and the viewer has no idea of the time spent. Thankfully iPhones have a time lapse feature so it is really easy to set up and record.

Refinement for podcast aspect of the logo

Too much and needed some simplification

These logos were a lot more in the direction that was needed and overall was satisfied with the refinement of the design. A personal favourite of mine was the use of the ring in the glass with bubbles coming off, this emphasised the idea of weddings as commonly people propose with the use of a champagne glass which in this case was a wine glass to go with the podcast name ‘Weddings and Wine’
